23rd and 24th February Agri Committee
The next Agri Committee will take place on the 23rd and the 24th February 2026 at the European Parliament in Brussels and will be once again closely followed by The Green Hand and its team.
Among points such as the EU beekeeping sector situation, as well as the guidelines for the 2027 Budget and the 2015 International Agreement on Olive Oil and Table Olives, two other issues of relevance for Malta will be discussed.
The first is the EU’s agri-food promotion policy. For the moment, Malta only has one food product registered with a Geographical Indication, with the Protected Designation of Origin label which is the famous Ġbejna tan-nagħaġ. This shows that Maltese agri-food promotion still has great potential for development.
The second is the simplification of certain requirements and procedures for chemical products. Maltese farmers’ competitiveness is currently suffering in this area, lacking easy access to fertiliser and pesticide products at a fair price.
