First step to optimise EU funds

In this article, we will detail the first step to optimise the EU funds available. Any EU stakeholder active in the agriculture sector can potentially benefit from funds and their aim is to support EU agriculture in general but mainly to allow EU farmers to be competitive on a larger scale. As a matter of fact, it would nearly be impossible for EU agriculture to be competitive with the rest of the world without EU funds as agricultural land prices and work force costs in particular are significantly higher in the old continent.

How, does this function? Typically, the European Commission establishes a global budget for what we call the Common Agriculture Policy (CAP) for 5 years. The current CAP will end in 2027 and the next one is at the moment  being negotiated in Brussels among the different Member States. Each Member State receives proportionally a part of that budget and presents to the European Commission a Strategic Plan specifying its objectives for approval. After approval, the EU funds are allocated to the Member States and managed regionally or nationally.

It is therefore primordial first and foremost to know about the EU funds that are available both in your region or in your country and which are relevant to you as some of the funds can only be obtained before implementing your agricultural project. Conducting an EU funds study is thus essential to drafting in a second step your business plan and master your cashflow on the short-medium term, especially if your project involves heavy investments in material or infrastructure. Moreover, EU funds can also be used in addition to production to strengthen your product value in the customer chain or for marketing purposes.
