5th March Agri Committee
Last Thursday morning, another Agri Committee Meeting took place at the European Parliament and was followed as usual by The Green Hand.
The agenda of the meeting covered topics such as the Multiannual Financial Framework for 2028-2034, certain production, labelling and certification rules and the European Court of Auditors’ opinion on the implementation of the Union support to the Common Agriculture Policy for the period from 2028 to 2034.
This agenda is relevant to all Member States but even more to Malta due to its size and its geographical position. As a matter of fact, Maltese agriculture’s lack of competitiveness forces the island to be more sensitive to market volatility, especially when energy costs are impacted like right now with the military conflict in Iran.
In this context, the role of the Common Agriculture Policy, which is principally to support our famers’ income and our food sovereignty, becomes even more crucial for Malta.
